More and more parents-to-be are considering having giving birth to their
babies at home.
It is now widely accepted, that for healthy women with healthy pregnancies
giving birth at home is as safe, possibly even safer then a hospital birth. This
claim is backed up by several scientific studies that looked at the clinical
outcomes for mother and baby. It certainly makes sense that giving birth in a
low tech environment reduces the amount of intervention and takes away the temptation to
give into the drugs on offer. It is well documented that these are contributing
factors to the increasingly medically management of birth that women seek to
avoid.
There are many other advantages to a homebirth. The atmosphere at a homebirth
is very different to a hospital birth. You are in the comfort and safety of your
own home, with access to food and drink that you like, when ever you fancy. The
midwife and your support people are there at your invitation, you can choose to
make the birth a private affair, or a family event welcoming the baby to world
together. The choice and control is yours.
